Description
-----------
Advanced Cataloguer (ACAT) is an easy to use tool with
explorer-like interface which allows you to catalog the drives:
floppy disks, hard drives (including network ones), optical
disks, CD-ROMs, ZIP disks and other media.
With ACAT you are able to:
- organize volumes, folders and files into keywords;
- add comment and note to each file, folder and disk;
- search for files/folders using file name (with
wildcards) or your own comments, notes;
- generate reports,
- delete individual files and folders from the catalogs;
- ... and much more.
ACAT doesn't use any database engines and so very fast.
The database generated by ACAT is very compact.
ACAT has a user-friendly and easy-to-use interface.
Installation
------------
Important! If you've got ACAT not from our web page, but from
the other source (magazine CD or some software library), please
visit our home page - you'll probably find the later version;
We recommend you to uninstall the previous version of ACAT (if
you have one) from your computer before installing this one. You
can do this via "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel applet. If
you'll get the notification that the ACAT folder is not empty, be
careful when removing it: it may contain the .acat files (the
databases created by ACAT) you may wish to keep. Uninstall, by the
way, will not remove the options you set in older version, so
the new version, being installed, will have exactly the same
settings as before.
To install ACAT, just run the "Setup.exe" and follow the
instructions. You'll need to select the target directory
and the components to install.
Note: the Advanced Cataloguer may not run correctly if the new
version of common control library (comctl32.dll) is not
installed; the program requires version 4.70 or later (version
4.72 is recommended). This new version is already available in
Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 and Windows NT 4.0; you may also
have it if you're using Internel Explorer 3.x or later. The
installation program of the Advanced Cataloguer checks what
version do you have, and it'll ask you to update this file if
it is old. If it will happen, just run the "41Comupd.exe" to
update your system; reboot the computer and start the setup
program again. For your convenience, we're distributing
"41comupd.exe" together with the Advanced Cataloguer setup
files.
