  54. Advanced Cataloguer (ACAT) is an easy to use tool with
  55. explorer-like interface which allows you to catalog the drives:
  56. floppy disks, hard drives (including network ones), optical
  57. disks, CD-ROMs, ZIP disks and other media.
  58.  
  59. With ACAT you are able to:
  60.         - organize volumes, folders and files into keywords;
  61.         - add comment and note to each file, folder and disk;
  62.         - search for files/folders using file name (with
  63.           wildcards) or your own comments, notes;
  64.         - generate reports,
  65.         - delete individual files and folders from the catalogs;
  66.         - ... and much more.
  67. ACAT doesn't use any database engines and so very fast.
  68. The database generated by ACAT is very compact.
  69. ACAT has a user-friendly and easy-to-use interface.

  71. Installation
  72. ------------

  74. Important! If you've got ACAT not from our web page, but from
  75. the other source (magazine CD or some software library), please
  76. visit our home page - you'll probably find the later version;
  77.  
  78. We recommend you to uninstall the previous version of ACAT (if
  79. you have one) from your computer before installing this one. You
  80. can do this via "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel applet. If
  81. you'll get the notification that the ACAT folder is not empty, be
  82. careful when removing it: it may contain the .acat files (the
  83. databases created by ACAT) you may wish to keep. Uninstall, by the
  84. way, will not remove the options you set in older version, so
  85. the new version, being installed, will have exactly the same
  86. settings as before.

  88. To install ACAT, just run the "Setup.exe" and follow the
  89. instructions. You'll need to select the target directory
  90. and the components to install.
  91.  
  92. Note: the Advanced Cataloguer may not run correctly if the new
  93. version of common control library (comctl32.dll) is not
  94. installed; the program requires version 4.70 or later (version
  95. 4.72 is recommended). This new version is already available in
  96. Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 and Windows NT 4.0; you may also
  97. have it if you're using Internel Explorer 3.x or later. The
  98. installation program of the Advanced Cataloguer checks what
  99. version do you have, and it'll ask you to update this file if
  100. it is old. If it will happen, just run the "41Comupd.exe" to
  101. update your system; reboot the computer and start the setup
  102. program again. For your convenience, we're distributing
  103. "41comupd.exe" together with the Advanced Cataloguer setup
  104. files.

  127. Before you contact us, please do the following:

  129. - Be sure that you're doing everything right. We all make
  130.   mistakes sometimes... Be attentive.
  131. - Visit ACAT home page in the Internet at
  132.   http://www.evgenysoft.com. It's a good chance that you'll
  133.   find the newer version of ACAT there. If the serious bug has
  134.   been found in the program, but the new version is not ready yet,
  135.   we make the hot fix for it.

  142.   - Advanced Cataloguer version (from "About" dialog)
  143.   - Advanced Cataloguer serial number (if you're a registered user)
  144.   - Windows 95/98/NT version (including service packs and other
  145.     fixes installed), US or international, OEM or not
  146.   - computer information: CPU type and speed, installed memory
  147.   - description of your problem (as much information as possible
  148.     to retrieve the problem)

  150. Note: you may want to read the "How to Determine the Version of

  155. In order to get the complete computer information (working under
  156. Windows 95), open the Control Panel, click on "System" applet and
  157. press "Print" on "Device Manager" tab.
